Power Reporting

This short report is about two websites chosen from a long list of helpful journalism websites.

The first website that I found interesting was http://www.journalistexpress.com/.  It has a tab on the top of the page that breaks all the news by categories.  It covers top stories, research news, people and other types of news.  When clicked on the entire page is filled with different links broken down into sections.  There is a lot on the page, but it has a very simple layout and makes it easy to scan.  It is also helpful that it breaks down how each source of news is delivered.  The categories are magazines, broadcast, newspapers, etc. and they are linked to the website of the specific type of news source.  This seems to be a helpful website when one doesn’t really know what they are looking for.  It gives a chance to check out many different sources that may even cover the same story.  It may be good for comparing different news sources because there are so many links.   With a simple layout and a lot of links this would be a useful website when looking for many different sources for news.

The next website I looked at was http://reporter.asu.edu/.  I am not a fan of the layout of this website, but it seems pretty solid for information.  It is very plain and doesn’t have any fancy graphics or pictures.  Some of the links include government websites, online news sources and search engines.  For journalists trying find specific rules, laws or people this may be a great website for them.  I found a directory search and the amount of people’s information that is on the Internet is kind of scary.  The journalism link has a lot of information because that is the main reason for the site.  I think it could be useful when searching for specific types of information.
